45598 at Highley picture of the week

Hi all, Another picture from our recent visit to the Severn Valley Railways Steam Gala. Here is 4-6-0 3 cylinder 5XP Jubilee 4-6-0 45596 “Bahamas” looking magnificent in its British Railways green as it drops into Highley with the 14.15 Bridgnorth to Kidderminster train. In tow is a fine rake of blood and custard coaches to take you back to the 1950s. I can well remember these engines usually from Bristol Barrow Road or Leeds Holbeck getting into their stride

After the train had passed through I decided to have a trip to Buckfastleigh behind Great Western 0-6-0 pannier tank 6490 to finish off

It seemed to be the regular engine at the time as I saw it a few weeks later at Malton. Lots of Rowen trees line the side of

Hi all, A day out on the RH&DR Romney Hythe & Dymchurch Railway, Kent. 4-6-2 number 10 “Doctor Syn” at Hythe about to work the 12.00 to Dungeness. Is this really a steam engine? It’s more like a museum piece. The reverend Doctor Christopher Syn was the hero in Russell Thorndyke novels about the hero Smuggler of Romney Marsh. Garath Evans marches up to the engine for a cab ride and a bit of fireing. Will he fit? Will he

Saltley steam shed Birmingham

Hi all, One of my early poor quality Brownie camera pictures taken at work. Can you believe they would let a 15 year old loose amongst this lot nowadays! I loved it. This is Saltley depot Duddeston Mill Road Birmingham, what a place! Standing outside three shed in the yard are two standard engines, 2-10-0 9F 92123 from Leicester and 4-6-0 5MT 73004 from Chester, a rare visitor indeed not many of these turned up here, only in passing usually,
