Hi all,
Our second trip to Austria, the first being in mid winter, February 1971. Things were moving fast and there was still plenty of steam to see but for how Long? But now we were here mid summer, June for two weeks in a hire car from Linz eastern Austria. This was our first visit to the Linz Summerau line, a very busy single line 100% steam worked. Heavy freight trains climbing all the way to Summerau for about 30-40 miles through really beautiful rolling hill country to the Czech border where their steam engines exchanged trains.
Freistadt wher we stayed for two nights is a really lovely small walled town, very old and this is where these picture are taken of 52-6208 2-10-0 German built Kriegs lok working the 16.25 Linz Summerau passenger on a nice sunny evenin. The weather had been great all day and we got some really nice pictures. We were to be treated to lunch and wine by a local couple who spoke English and lived next to the railway, having found the woodland track to their secluded house. 26th June 1972.
Regards
