You didn’t venture into Yugoslavia unless you wanted really serious trouble with their police so we stayed in Austria, just! The border post was right behind us. This is a very cold Austria and we are a few thousand feet up! A volcanic exhaust and tremendous noise is being produced by 97-208 0-6-2 Rack tank as it climbs very slowly to Prabichl through spectacular scenery with empty iron ore wagons from Vordernberg to the iron ore mountain at Ertzberg for re loading on a freezing cold day, another engine brings up the rear out of sight working just as hard. A nice black and white photo for a change. This time of the daily freight train from Garsten to Klaus coming through the woods near Summerhubermuhle (what a mouthful) in Austria hauled by 0-6-2 tank engine 298-56 which always seemed to be in excellent condition whenever visiting this line. The Garsten narrow gauge Austria. This line was situated off the standard gauge Enns to Leoben Line south of Linz near the town of Steyr and passed through quiet backwaters as far as Klaus. A daily freight train ran to here but the passenger service from Garsten now terminated at Molln, a small village on the river Steyr, the line followed the river all the way. 0-6-2 tank 298-52 is working the 06.10 from Garsten to Aschach on a perfect

Day late this week, been to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway for a few days. In the gloom of Vienna Nord depot shafts of sunlight stream down from the roof onto the shed floor. 77-22 an Austrian 4-6-2 tank is ready for the rush hour service out into the suburbs from Vienna Pratterstern station.
