Hi all,
How this has changed since then. A picture I took sometime in 1985 of 5X (4)5593 “Kolhapur” working the White Rose taken from the Bromford Lane road bridge. Except for the railway everything has been taken away. Bromford sidings on the right along with the Dug Out Siding next to the Up Goods. The sidings here you can see has been taken away and replaced with a concrete railway sleeper manufacturing works moved lock stock and barrel from Washwood Heath Down sidings nearly a mile away on the other side of the railway.
To the left of the railway the land has been completely cleared right back to the Washwood Heath Road, also about a mile away and for the construction of a new depot will take place. Next to the railway on the left a is a tunnel being bored which starts some way back and will go under the river Thame that flows beneath the engine. The tunnel will extend beyond Castle Bromwich a good two miles away. All this has taken place to build the HS2 railway into Birmingham. Lastly the 2 gas holders have been demolished for scrap metal.
Regards
Ledg.
