Until the reunification of the two halves of Germany it was impossible for anyone other than locals to get on or off the trains here at the lovely old station of Elend as it was so near to the border fence between the East and West.
The East German guards could be seen roaming the nearby woods fully armed and with there big Alsation dogs. So now that the two halves had been reunified one of the first places to head for was here where I spent a while taking photographs. On this occasion 99-7244 2-10-2 Tank is arriving with the 11.01 Wernigerode to Eisfelder and Benneckenstein.
I went in the winter expecting some very deep snow so it was a bit disappointing although there was still some about in the shade, but the plus was the good weather.
