Here is a biggy in Spain seen on our first visit to Spain. What a learning curve that was, General Franco was still in charge and the only thing I can say about it is, it was in a bad state!
This is one of their 10 engines of this class number 242 2004, a 4-8-4 engine built to pull express trains from San Sebastian on the French border to Madrid. They were now allocated to Miranda de Ebro the depot after electrification of the main line to Madrid and were now working freight trains. In front of it is a 2-8-2F which were spread all over Spain.
Both machines were oil fired, I don’t think I would have liked firing coal into this monster if it had been that way. The driver looks interesting in our antics.
