Hi all,
Our second visit to West Germany brought us to the Vineyards of the Mossell at Bulley on the very busy Coblenz Trier Line almost 100% steam worked. To get to this spot required a slog over the hill to the right from Bulley along zig zag paths. Walking through Prinzenkoft tunnel was a bit to dodgy! Trier was home to a small allocation of 001 Pacifics for working some of the expresses along with class 023 2-6-2s. 044 2-10-0s worked all the freight trains. During the week we spent in West Germany I got a few decent pictures but I found out in poor winter light it was wanting so bought a Praktica for the coming summer. From this distance shots of a moving train was not to bad but close ups were a disaster. I rather like this picture, the vines are all dormant and pruned for the summer to come, the river is well up over its banks in fact the farm road under the arches was flooded, all this water was to flow into the Rheine at Koblenz . We continued on from here to the tunnel which was where the exhaust from the train finishes until the light faded and we trudged back to the hotel in Bulley. Thursday 5th February 1970.
