This was our first visit to East Germany which meant a visit to London to obtain visas. Taking photographs was no Bothe on the narrow gauge lines even the standard gauge was the same as long as you didn’t venture near depots or marshalling yards they got nasty then.
Here is a delightful shot taken at Alexisbad station on the Hartz narrow gauge system, every one is waiting for the train hauled by to depart at 11.46 to Strasberg. 99-5902 was a grand old Saxon machine I believe of 0-4-0+0-4-0 wheel arrangement with 4 cylinders. All the engines were allocated to Gernrode near the beautiful old town of Quidlingburg. Monday 20th April 1981
