Picture of the year 2014.

I had a good haul of photographs in 2014 but my choice is of Ex Great Western Castle 5043 “Earl of Mount Edgcombe” Just after sun rise as it approaches Elford north of Tamworth, a 45 minute drive from home. It’s working the 07.50 Tyseley to York “Christmas White Rose” The exhaust is wonderful. The sun was only just up and almost straight into the camera lens and a rainbow has crept into the left hand side of the picture but there is a wonderful glint all along the side of the train and to top it all a star catches on the front edge of the firebox casing. I couldn’t quite believe what I had just seen.
Where I was is a good walk through the fields from the road bridge at the south end of the down goods loop and I had had it in mined for some time, it was just a hop over the fence and wait for the train to come along. Unless you have access to the railway it’s impossible to get into this spot now as a 7 feet palisade fence has been erected.
