012-100 At Lathen West Germany

Hi all,
Looking every inch a powerful machine, West German 3 cylinder Pacific 012-100, storms up from Lathen with the 11.07 Norddiech to Koln at 70 to 80 MPH.
This engine had recently been transferred to Rheine along with a number of others from the Hamburg Alton depot where they were used for work really heavy long distance through trains north from Hamburg to Westerland on the island of Silt, and where kept in magnificent condition for the long hard work they did day in day out at Hamburg. By now the allocation of class 012s at Hamburg had all been replaced with a fleet of new Diesels. The best engines remaining had been sent to Rheine and would see out working these trains along with Rheine’s allocation until finally being withdrawn in 1975. Tuesday 17th July 1973.
Regards
Ledg.
