Hi all,
Another picture from our recent visit to the Severn Valley Railways Steam Gala. Here is 4-6-0 3 cylinder 5XP Jubilee 4-6-0 45596 “Bahamas” looking magnificent in its British Railways green as it drops into Highley with the 14.15 Bridgnorth to Kidderminster train. In tow is a fine rake of blood and custard coaches to take you back to the 1950s.
I can well remember these engines usually from Bristol Barrow Road or Leeds Holbeck getting into their stride as they began to accelerate their trains away from Birmingham heading north through Bromford Bridge station before the coming of the Cromptons. By Water Orton they would be well into their stride.
Along side further back on the next road is one of the other Cromptons from the Southern region, probably one of the best new build of the early classes of Diesels that would come into service. This was another class of engine you would see at Bromford Bridge every day on the Fawley oil trains.
20th September 2024.
Regards Ledg.
