Picture of the Week: 92167 Appleby

Here’s Saltley’s Carlisle Job heading south through Appleby passing the 272 mile post, the distance from St Pancras. Being worked by 92167 one of Saltley’s three 9F 2-10-0 mechanical stokers and putting up a mighty volcano of pollution on the long climb to Ais Gill. It could be fireman Gregory leaning from the cab? bad boy. They have a good train on of mostly enclosed wagons and will no dought be hurtling down the other side from Ais Gill to Settle Junction and the south on the long journey home to Birmingham.
July 1961.
